Stella ate a tree. That's right. Our sweet 70 lb lab/pit mix ate a tree. My Grandmother found out that we don't have trees in our back yard, so she wanted to buy us a couple trees for a housewarming gift. She's been telling us this since April, shortly after we moved in. She's been so excited about it; every time we talk, she asks about the trees, and has been mailing us newspaper-clippings about how to choose a tree, where to plant, etc. Well, we finally bought 2 trees this past weekend: a Scarlet Corkscrew Curly Willow, and an October Glory Maple. Both (were) 8-10 feet tall. We dug big holes, tilled the natural soil with manure and soil conditioner, and planted our trees. My parents even came to help. We thought about putting little fences around the trees, but then we thought "No...Stella can't up-root a tree. Why would she do that?" Just to be safe, we trained her with the shock collar to stay away from the trees. We woke up this morning, and the trees were still intact, looking beautiful. At about 3:30pm today, I received a text message from my dear, sweet husband saying "there's only one tree left." She uprooted the Scarlet Corkscrew Curly Willow, snapped/chewed it in half, chewed the roots off, ate some branches, and probably had the time of her life.
I swear, one of these days we're going to install a camera in the backyard. She never ceases to keep us surprised/laughing/mad/loving. I don't think I've ever been this mad at her though. That bitch! (get it?). I guess I love her more than a tree, so we'll keep her around :) I do think she's sorry, but I just wish she could say it. She is a tornado.
